TweetDeck, the popular Twitter management tool, will no longer be available as a standalone Windows app from 15 April. According to Twitter the idea behind getting rid of the Windows app is to have a seamless login experience. So that once you are logged into Twitter, you do not have to separately login to TweetDeck.
“Now, when you move from TweetDeck to Twitter websites, or from these websites to TweetDeck, you’ll be automatically logged in — making it even easier to move between the tools you use daily,” said the blog post.
The Mac and Chrome apps of TweetDeck will carry on. On Windows, you can continue using the TweetDeck from your browser by visiting tweetdeck.com. You can pin the TweetDeck web version to your Windows task bar as a Chrome Web app. After opening TweetDeck.com on Chrome, you will need to go to Customise and Control > More tools > Add to taskbar.
Addressing the concerns that Twitter is not doing much on the development side for apps such as TweetDeck, the company claims in the blog post that it has been “working on infrastructure projects like these to ensure that it has a stable foundation to continue improving TweetDeck in the future.”
Twitter had bought TweetDeck for a sum of $40 million in 2011 before which it had asked third party developers to stop making apps for Twitter.
